21 People Busted Selling RX Meds on Craigslist
Do you spend much time on Craiglist? Do you ever find weird things on there that you wish you didn't? How about prescription medication? 21 people have been arrested recently in California for trying to sell prescription drugs on Craigslist, according to news reports. They were advertising painkillers and medications, including Adderall, OxyContin and Xanax. At least two of them were armed with knives or guns when they were apprehended by cops. Almost half of the drugs were illegally prescribed by a single doctor from Oxnard, who apparently blatantly advertises the drugs on his website.
The trade in drugs through the internet is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. "Any juvenile with access to a smartphone... has instant access for the price of lunch money to obtain all the substances being sold on Craigslist, " said the leader of the police task force. "It's not even hidden in code words," he said. "You can type in Vicodin, OxyContin, and it comes up for sales."
Are you worried about how easy it is to find drugs online? Do you think it might prove tempting for your loved ones-or even yourself? How about young people that you know? Here's what you can do to help protect yourself and your family:
•Only get prescription medications from medical personnel you trust
•Never buy painkillers secondhand
•Stay away from any website that promises drugs
