Alcohol Turns Wedding Boat Crash Tragic
Do you have a problem with using alcohol? Do you ever find it hard to stop yourself from drinking? Have you ever used alcohol around cars, boats, machinery, or other dangerous things? Do you suspect that you might have alcoholism? You wouldn't be the only one suspecting alcoholism. Police are saying that a boat pilot had been drunk when he crashed his powerboat full of wedding guests into a construction barge, killing both the bride-to-be and the best man. His defense argues that it was poor lighting on the barge that caused the crash, but the indictment is for drunk piloting.
Attorneys say the boat pilot's blood alcohol level was at 0.15%, which is nearly twice the legal limit for operating a car, boat, or other machine. They also claim that the pilot had cocaine metabolites in his system, which are the substances produced in the body after it breaks down cocaine in the bloodstream. The pilot is facing more than 18 criminal charges. "Drinking and driving is a lethal mix, as it appears to have been in this incident, which left several families shattered," said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.
