Driver Disposes of Drugs After Bus Accident

The driver of a vehicle that collided with a school bus this week was arrested for possession of heroin, which he threw out his window after the accident. The man either drifted across lanes or was driving the wrong way when he hit a school bus almost head on in Penn Township outside of Pittsburgh. The bus was carrying one eight year old passenger who was unharmed. The bus driver informed officials that the man got our of his car and tossed something over a hill, and when officers rappelled down the hill they found a significant amount of heroin that appeared to be packaged for distribution, along with other drug paraphernalia.

The man told police that he was using Suboxone, which is a substance used to treat heroin addiction. It is unclear whether he was using drugs at the time but the possession and distribution of drugs is extremely dangerous, especially for someone struggling with addiction. Exposure and association with a controlled substance makes it incredibly difficult for an addict to stay clean, particularly without the ongoing support that a professional rehab facility provides. Anyone struggling with drug addiction must reach out for support to overcome an addiction and prevent relapse.
