Billie Joe Armstrong Talks to Rolling Stone About Substance Abuse

Rolling Stone Magazine has previewed an upcoming exclusive interview with Billie Joe Armstrong in which he discusses his longtime struggle with substance abuse. The frontman for veteran band Green Day recently entered rehab treatment in Oakland, California after a meltdown on stage at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas this past September. Armstrong reportedly smashed his guitar and screamed insults from the stage at Clear Channel, the show’s producers after they held up a sign advising that he had one minute left in his set. This was one of many nights that he didn’t remember the next morning due to his substance abuse issues.

Armstrong’s recovery postponed the release of the band’s new album, but the situation had become so serious that admittance to rehab was unavoidable. He recounts his problems in the interview, noting that he would regularly wake up in a strange house without any recollection of how he got there. Though there are not any public reports of Armstrong putting himself or his loved ones in danger, his struggle with substance abuse is unfortunately all too familiar. Individuals who are struggling with substance abuse must seek help before destroying careers, relationships or worse.
