We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God’s will for us and the power to carry that out.
In recognition of Alcohol Awareness Month, Retreat at Lancaster County will be providing tips on alcoholism recovery and prevention throughout the month of April.
You have come a long way in searching your soul, addressing your flaws and wrong doings and making a connection with God. Finding a place where you could accept that there was a higher power, that you were unable to control your addiction, and that your higher power could save you from yourself were major steps in your path to recovery. It’s time to deepen your connection with God, and yourself through prayer and meditation. Keeping conscious contact with God serves as your continuous reality check and moral and spiritual compass.
Just as your body needs air, food and water, your soul also needs nourishment. By depriving your soul of a connection with God you are preventing a healthy mind and spirit and opening the door for failure and relapse. By depending on God you will also come to learn how to accept those around you as they are, with their flaws and mistakes, and accept yourself as well. God will become a trusted friend with whom you can trust with your fears, anxieties and doubts. You already know the importance of building a strong support network around you to aid you in your recovery and long term sobriety. The presence of God in your life is an important part of that support network. Remember to feed your soul and your relationship with your higher power in order to stay strong. Turn over your need for control and allow your higher power to keep you strong.
